Just six months after its release, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s summer hit “Despacito” has become the most-streamed song ever, logging 4.6 billion streams to date. That figure includes streams of the Fonsi-Yankee track as well as a remix featuring Justin Bieber.
Most of those plays — 2.6 billion of them — were generated on YouTube from views of the original version’s music video, which is the third-most watched video in the site’s history. An audio-only post of the Bieber remix has about 425 million plays on YouTube. On Spotify, the two versions were listened to a combined 1.1 billion times.
Luis Fonsi commented that “streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet. It is truly an honor that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.”
